Instructors

SUMMARY
A Curling Instructor is responsible for teaching the basics of the sport of curling to guests at curling events as well as other duties needed to ensure smooth operation of curling events.
This position reports to the Curling Events Manager.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work with the Curling Events Manager to teach proper curling technique to beginners in adherence to required program standards.
  • Set up and tear-down duties for each event, including light cleaning;
  • Promote a fun and welcoming atmosphere;
  • At all times, be positive and encouraging to all curling event customers;
  • Employ excellent customer service skills;
  • Handle conflicts and respond to problems and customer concerns;
  • Recognize and respond to safety and emergency situations;
  • Maintain a valid and current OLCC service permit if accepting shifts which include bartending;
  • Perform additional duties, as assigned by the Curling Events Manager, to ensure the smooth operation of curling events.
  • Maintain time sheets and follow schedule as posted on the scheduling system.
  • Responsible for the safekeeping of the assigned alarm code; following club closure procedures and ensuring club is secured, or responsibility is transferred to an appropriate club member before leaving.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS
Pay is $17/hour
No prior curling experience necessary.
Most shifts are between 9am and 5pm, Monday-Friday.
May be combined with Ice Ops for additional hours.

Ice Ops

SUMMARY
An Ice Technician is responsible for maintenance and preparation of the curling ice according to standards and procedures set by the Ice Operations Manager (also known as Ice Maker).

This position reports to the Curling Events Manager and coordinates with the Ice Operations Manager. 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Perform daily curling ice maintenance (scraping, pebbling, cleaning); Perform weekly and monthly curling ice maintenance (resurfacing); Deal with curlers’ concerns about curling ice quality;
Maintain facility cleanliness; Check and communicate chiller issues;
  • Perform basic facility repairs as needed;
Demonstrate extreme attention to detail and quality of the ice surface; 
  • Keep simple records and maintain communication with the ECC IceOps team and the Curling Events Manager.
  • Recognize and respond to safety and emergency situations;
  • Perform additional duties, as assigned by the Curling Events Manager, to ensure the smooth operation of events.
  • Maintain time sheets and follow schedule as posted on the web-based scheduling system.
  • Communicate with ice staff and volunteers using Slack.
  • Responsible for the safekeeping of the assigned alarm code; following club closure procedures and ensuring club is secured, or responsibility is transferred to an appropriate club member before leaving.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS
Pay is $17/hour
No prior experience necessary.
Most shifts are 4-6pm M-F.
Ice season is September thru mid-May.
Minimum age for this position is 16.
May be combined with instructing for additional hours.
