Evergreen Curling Club does not agree with USA Curling’s decision to wrongfully ban transgender women from competition. We believe our sport and our community are stronger when every curler feels welcome — on the ice, in the warm room, and competing at whatever level they wish.
Since USA Curling’s adoption of the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee revised discriminatory Transgender Participation Policy, we have heard from our community, those directly affected, allies, and other clubs who share our belief. While we understand the considerations that led to USCA’s decision, we would like to reiterate that ECC will not adopt or enforce any policy that excludes curlers based on their gender identity.
Evergreen Curling Club currently supports our transgender and LGBTQIA+ curlers by:
Continuing to offer Evergreen members the option to opt out of USA Curling membership when renewing their annual ECC membership.
Supporting transgender and gender nonconforming members to use the locker room of their choosing, with lockers available in a public area for those who prefer a non-gendered option.
Welcoming members to curl in any league, regardless of gender identity.
Openly encouraging trans women to participate in our annual women’s bonspiel.
Maintaining non-gendered, single-stall restrooms so all members feel comfortable and safe.
Hosting a Learn-to-Curl event specifically in support of the LGBTQIA+ community – To be held on April 18th, 2026 this season.
Free updated name tags for any member updating their name or gender identity, with a temporary tag provided in the meantime.
Evergreen Curling Club has been, and will continue to be, in direct conversation with USA Curling leadership about the impacts of their revised policy and its impact on transgender curlers at ECC.
This season we will also address our club’s future affiliation with the USCA as well as hosting USCA events. The Board has already begun a review and analysis. There will be a series of Town Halls to discuss these topics with the general membership. The first will be December 13th at 8:30PM

Evergreen Curling Club stands in full support of our transgender, non-binary, gender non-conforming, and LGBTQIA+ members. We remain committed to keeping our club an inclusive space that is open to all.
As we affirmed to our membership before this policy change took place,
No change in federal policy is going to change who we are. Our values, our hearts, and the soul of the club is not up for debate. When you walk through our front door, you are a curler, and that is all that matters to us.
Regardless of national or international policy changes, Evergreen Curling Club leagues and bonspiels will continue to welcome all curlers, regardless of gender identity. We will continue to uphold the inclusive participation standards our club has long embraced.
The ECC Board is actively engaging with our regional representatives to better understand proposed changes and to identify opportunities for all curlers to compete. We are also deepening our connections with the Portland area LGBTQIA+ community, including hosting a Pride Learn-to-Curl this April.
Everyone. Every Body. Evergreen.
